Beginners - The first flame
Most people think about this for weeks before they book. They screenshot the page. They send it to a friend. They wonder if they're brave enough. Then they show up — hands shaking, heart racing — and by the end of the day they've eaten fire, breathed fire, and walked out grinning like they got away with something. That's the part no one expects. It's not a class. It's a before-and-after.- Safety fundamentals
- Body burning
- Fire Licks and Eats
- Fire Breathing
- Videos to take home
Advanced - Now it's an Art
For the Dragons who finished the Beginners class and couldn't stop thinking about what was next. This is where fire stops being a thing you do and becomes a thing you make. Flame transfers. Vapour trails. Jellyfish. The techniques that turn a trick into a performance.- Safety fundamentals
- Flame Transfers
- Trails and combinations
- Vapor Stunts
- Fuel tech
Special Effects - the tricks that go BOOM
Coloured flames. Lycopodium flash. Sparkle powders. Spinning pyrotechnics. This is where science meets spectacle and your audience forgets how to breathe. Available at any point in your fire journey — you don't need Advanced first. Warning: your friends will not believe the videos.- Bubbles and coloured Fire
- Lycopodium
- Sparkle powders
- Pyrotechnics Equipment
- Safety and equipment Care

You came for the fire, you stayed for what it made you
Most people come for one extraordinary day. Some never leave. Both are exactly right.
the craft comes first not the show
Mastery takes years. We don't apologise for that. Every technique is taught properly, safely, and in the right order — because shortcuts in fire arts aren't bad practice, they're how people get hurt. We're suspicious of any school that promises faster.
At your pace
by my standards
Some Dragons walk the whole pathway in a year. Some take five. Some come once for the most epic day of their year and never come back — and that's a perfect outcome too. What we don't bend on is how it's taught: small classes, real ventilation, live fire on every vapour stunt. Always.
everyone belongs
Queer, BIPOC, disabled, neurodivergent — The Fire School is for anyone who was told this world wasn’t for them and refused to believe it. We actively work to make fire arts accessible to all.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you book your first flame.
Is fire performance safe for beginners?
Yes — when it's taught properly. Sarah has been on fire for 29 years and has been teaching at The Fire School for 14, training 2,500+ students with a spotless safety record. Every class starts with comprehensive safety training before anyone goes near a flame. We keep groups small on purpose, so every Dragon gets the attention they need. You'll never feel rushed, pressured, or unsafe. That's not a policy. It's who we are.
Do I need any prior experience or special skills?
None. The Beginners class is built for people who have never touched fire equipment in their lives. Students aged 18+, all backgrounds, all bodies, all abilities. The only thing you need to bring is the willingness to show up.
What should I wear and bring to classes?
Natural fibres only — cotton, wool, denim. No synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, or lycra. They behave badly around fire — and we mean that literally. Tie long hair back securely. We provide all equipment, safety gear, and fuel. You bring yourself, a water bottle, and an open mind. Full kit list goes out when you book.
Is The Fire School LGBTQI+ friendly?
Without reservation. Queer, trans, non-binary, and students of every identity aren't just welcomed — they're a meaningful part of why this school exists at all. Zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind. This isn't a policy statement. It's the culture Sarah has built over 14 years, and it's not negotiable.
How do I progress from beginner to advanced levels?
At your own pace. Start with Beginners. When you're ready — usually after a few months of regular practice — move to Advanced. Add Special Effects whenever it calls you. Come to the monthly Jam to practise, film your progress, and be around your people. Some Dragons walk the whole pathway in a year. Others take five. The pace is always yours.
Can I perform professionally after taking your courses?
Yes — and many of our graduates do. Five Guinness World Records are currently held by students Sarah trained. But getting to a paid stage isn't a weekend. It's a 12 to 24 month journey through the full curriculum: Beginners, Advanced, Special Effects, Act Development 1:1s, and the Portugal Retreat. We call it the Start to Stage Method. We don't apologise for the timeline — we'd rather you arrive on stage prepared than arrive injured.
What makes The Fire School different from other fire arts training?
Most fire courses teach you a trick. We teach you a craft. Sarah has 29 years of professional performance experience, 5 Guinness World Records held by her and her students, and has trained 2,500+ dragons safely. Classes are kept deliberately small. The curriculum covers the full spectrum of fire arts — not just one discipline. And unlike anywhere else, the community you join here tends to stick around. Some of our Dragons have been coming back for years.
